Last summer I did a 30 day Paleo/crossfit lockdown. This year, No Excuses is having a 90 day Challenge that has come at the perfect time! We start August 9th, so this week I had my body fat tested in an underwater tank.
Lets discuss.
I had just returned from Las Vegas, of all places, so the last thing I really wanted to do was get in a bathing suit and find out how fat I am. But I am really committed to this challenge and you don't know how far you have to go unless you know where you are. Where am I, you ask? We'll get to that in a minute.
I walk into the truck, that is parked in the parking lot at the gym. The happy news is that they had little changing rooms inside the truck so it was really private.
I changed and sat on the edge of the tank. The 'fat testing guy' told me to get in a push up position with my face out of the water where he then loaded my back up with a weighted belt to keep me under water when the time came. Comforting.
He told me to go underwater, and push all the air out of my lungs as fast and hard as I could. He would bang on the tank 3 times when I could come up. I did this 3 times to get an accurate measure. The first time I got a little freaked- I don't like being underwater really anyway. I don't think I could scuba dive and when I snorkel it takes me a few times before I can stick my face in the water. ugh. So I went under.... oh... another thing, when I get nervous I start to laugh.
So now I'm soaking wet, with a weighted belt on my back, in a push up position in a metal tank of water in a truck parked in the gym parking lot and I'm laughing hysterically. Nice.
But we did it... I finished and I'm 28% fat. seriously... 28% of my body is fat. Which is average for a 60 year old. When I finished last summer I think I was 22%.
Being laid up for so long after my car accident really helped in expediting muscle loss, but I think I'll be fine and have seen positive changes already since being back at NEA.
This week, we will be doing some WOD's as baseline... after the 3 month challenge I'll do them again and see how much I improved and my body fat will be taken again.
I expect great things.

"There is no better time than now. The time to live is now. The time to dream is now. The time to imagine and forget the past is now. The time to shine is now. The time to bleed, sweat, and determine yourself for the things you want most is now."
